Dr. Melissa Briggs - child play therapist- Lee's Summit MODr. Melissa Briggs – Ph.D., LPC, Registered Drama Therapist, Registered Play Therapist – Dr. Melissa Briggs is a Licensed Professional Counselor, Registered Drama Therapist and Registered Play Therapist. Melissa attended Kansas State University to earn her Ph.D in Counseling and Supervision and to obtain professional training for Drama Therapy.

She attended Pittsburg State University to earn her Masters degree in Counseling and her Bachelor’s degree in Psychology. Melissa earned her Play Therapy certification and training through Mid-American Nazarene University. During her graduate studies she specialized in creative and holistic approaches to counseling and therapeutic interventions.

Dr. Briggs has specific interest in working with children ages 2-18 addressing behavioral concerns, ADHD, mood disorders, adjustment concerns, trauma, attachment and relationship needs. She also has interest in working with families and parents on parenting skills, communication, attachment and engagement.

Dr. Melissa Briggs is engaging, non-judgmental, and brings a creative perspective to working with children and families. She views each child as aware and able to engage in their treatment and to make needed changes in their own lives. Melissa offers non-directive play therapy, directive play therapy, family based attachment, drama therapy interventions, creative arts therapy and parenting skills training. She utilizes a relationship focused, trauma aware and skills based approach to address emotional, cognitive and behavioral needs.
